2021 Christmas Party and IHDNA Christmas Project

Every year IHDNA residents take on a Christmas project to provide gifts for students. They work with Irving ISD to obtain a list of students that our neighborhood volunteers and residents shop for using the generous donations provided by our IHDNA neighborhood friends. They select gifts for 42 kids such as warm coats, good shoes, socks, underwear, clothing, and most importantly, cool toys, and even a couple of special bikes! Our neighborhood has always graciously stepped up to support these at-risk, homeless kids for the twelve years we have been doing this IISD charity program.

Mosquito Preparedness

Residents are reminded to prepare for mosquito season this summer. To defend against the West Nile virus, remember to follow the “Four Ds.” They are:

Dusk/Dawn – the times of day to stay indoors.
Dress – wear long sleeves and long pants when outdoors during these times.
DEET – an ingredient to look for when purchasing and using insect repellent.
Drain – minimize outside standing water so it does not become a mosquito breeding site.

iALERT Program

iALERT emergency notification service allows residents to be informed if there is an emergency occurring in their area. iALERT communicates information to listed phone numbers. Residents also can provide additional ways to be contacted such as cellphones, business phones and email. The information entered is protected and will not be used for any other purposes.

“iALERT is a program that allows us to notify the public on a large scale. It is an essential tool we use to keep our residents safe and informed,” said Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator Jason Carriere. When a callout is issued about a potential safety hazard or concern, messages will be sent to standard voice and text communication devices that have been registered, including landline phones, cellphones and email. The automated system will attempt to contact the database until a confirmation is received. The system is able to send messages to the entire database or select a certain area of the city based on the addresses in the system. To register for iALERT, click here. Lawn Maintenance

Irving’s Code Enforcement Department is reminding property owners about the city’s High-Grass and Weeds Ordinance—height may not exceed 10 inches. The High-Grass and Weeds ordinance applies to lawns on the front, back and side of Irving properties as well as the area between the sidewalk and the curb and the alley and easement (the area behind the property). While this ordinance helps preserve the beauty of city neighborhoods and corridors, high grass and weeds threaten public safety by posing a fire hazard, blocking visibility and contributing to pests.

Properties found out of compliance with this ordinance are subject to only one formal notice per 12-month period before the city is authorized to contract mowing without further notice. If a noncompliant property is mowed by a city contractor, the owner will be invoiced for services rendered. If the owner fails to settle the balance within 30 days, a lien may be placed against the property. Following are additional guidelines relevant to lawn maintenance:

• Grass and weed runners protruding. over the edge of a side walk are considered trip hazards. Edging allows for a clear path making it safe for pedestrians to use sidewalks.
• Blowing grass, weeds, leaves and debris into streets and sanitary storm drains is prohibited.
